Stratus Rain Gauge

If you are looking for a good but inexpensive rain gauge try the one from Stratus. The Stratus professional rain gauge is the official rain gauge for | CoCoRaHS | a Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow network.

The Stratus professional rain gauge can be purchased from | Ambient Weather's | website for $23 dollars.

The rain gauge is easy to read with measurements down to 100th of an inch. After installing mine we got 4 hundredths of an inch of rain the next day as seen in the photograph to the left. The measurement from the Stratus was the same as my Davis rain bucket and my Oregon Scientific rain bucket.

I have received three emails on how to measure over an inch of rain with the Stratus which is a very good question.

Measuring Over 1 Inch

Pour out the first inch from the inner tube and write it down.

Then pour the remaining water into the funnel and measure using the inner tube.

Continue until all of the water has been measured. Make sure you keep track of your amounts along the way.

It's that simple folks, and the gauge will hold up to "11 inches" of rain.

For additional snow, rain, and hail measuring information with the Stratus rain gauge, download the CoCoRaHS | training PDF | slide show and see page 40.
